Q:        Can I get sand for my private driveway?
A:         Yes, the highway department maintains an area adjacent to the large sand pile reserve for residents to pick up.
 

Q:        How do I report a pot hole or road surface condition which is in need of repair?
A:         Contact the Highway Department at 253-7445 or the Police Department dispatch 476-2400.
 

Q:        What if I find a road hazard/emergency i.e. tree down, lane obstruction by debris or snow drift or slippery road conditions.
A:         Contact the Police Department dispatch at 476-2400; they will contact the Road Agent or his staff to respond.
 

Q:        How do I report a missing road sign or other road signage i.e. Stop sign, Speed Limit sign or roadway layout notification sign?
A:         Contact the Highway Department at 253-7445 or the PD dispatch at 476-2400.

Q:        Can I get wood chips from the stockpile at the highway facility?
A:         Yes, just like the winter sand, you may load your own from the pile.

Q:        Does the highway department plow private driveways?
A:         No, the Highway department stopped plowing private driveway in the late 1980’s.

Q:        Does the Highway Department plow and sand private roads?
A:         Yes, private roads which have been approved and inspected by the Road Agent, and serve 2 or more residences.

Q:        How do I get a driveway permit?
A:         A driveway permit is issued by the Road Agent, and can be picked up at the Town Offices.

Q:        What is the procedure to excavate within the Town’s roadway right of way?
A:         A excavation permit is required and issued by the Road Agent.  The excavation permit is subject to a fee, and project inspections which also have a fee associated.  The excavation permit is available at the Town Office, Land Use Office.
